Current signature analysis motoring detects rotor cage winding faults in induction motors such as broken bars, defects in short-circuit rings and non-uniform gaps which are the cause of many electrical and mechanical faults in the engines. This monitoring is based on the general principle that any abnormality to which the motor is subjected also manifests as electrical signals in the stator currents.
